#SSB-0307 Hand Turned American Sweet Chestnut Beam Bowl w/Original Pegs Sculpture

This bowl sculpture is made from two sister sections of an American sweet chestnut beam complete with original mortices and pegs.  The cut of the bowl curve has the effect of a geological timeline where a deeply patina'd outer surface meets the protected, lighter patina of the beams core.  Telltale parallel cuts along its surface bear testimony to an 18th century water powered gash saw mill.  Also evident are the tracks and holes from the powder post beetles who ate, lived and grew when the beam was young, moist and tender!  Through the use of wood stabilizers and multiple coats of oil, this rustic piece of American history is now smooth to the touch and pleasing to the eye.  Truly a piece of American craftsmanship from now and over 250 years ago, it is surely a show stopper!

Measurements:  10" x 11" x 4 1/2" high
